May 22, 2021 – Join the MTC Adopt-A-Highway Trash Pickup Team (Earn MTC Volunteer Points)
Spend time with your MTC friends while improving one of the area’s best running routes by joining us for the next Adopt-a-Highway Trash Pickup, taking place Saturday, May 22. Participants will meet at Mote Marine Education Center (1700 Ken Thompson Pkwy, Sarasota, FL 34236), and clean up will begin at 10:00am – 12:00am
Spearheaded and organized by MTC Funding Coordinator Rob Loeffler, this will be the second quarterly clean up our club has done, and we’re eager to see both new and returning faces.
The section of road our club has adopted is a span of Gulf of Mexico Drive near Mote Marine Education Center — from near Ken Thompson Parkway to the Chart House. For the first clean up, back on February 6, we had around 30 club members participate and, in addition to the typical trash you’d expect to encounter, we came away with a few funnier finds, like a bike rack and windshield wiper.
Now, of course cleaning up a section of road where so many of us log our long runs and walks is probably reason enough to join in — especially since it’ll be a great opportunity to spend a little time with your MTC friends and family. But, if you’re looking for an extra incentive, block off your calendar and stick around for lunch at Salty Dog when we finish at noon. Is a cold drink after a couple hours of trash pick up as tasty as a post-race beverage? There’s only one way to find out — and we hope you’ll do just that on May 22.
