Run for Hope is a 5K on February 26th at Payne Park in support of the non-profit organization, New Hope Girls. New Hope Girls is an organization in the Dominican Republic that rescues and recovers girls ages 5 to 16 in the Dominican Republic from the cycle of exploitation. New Hope Girl’s mission is to stop modern-day slavery. They also bring in mothers from the community and teach them a skill of creating bags to give the women a decent way of living so they are able to keep and protect their daughters. The mission of Run for Hope is to have all the registration money go to New Hope Girls so that they can continue in their fight in the hardest of places and support the incredible work that they are doing.

The Run for Hope 5K was created by two Riverview High School students, Caroline King and Ashlee Kate Lenz, as their IB senior CAS project. Caroline King has been to the Dominican Republic 7 times to visit the New Hope Girls and since she was in 8th grade, she’s had a dream to create a 5K in the support of the organization. Today, that dream is coming to life. She fell in love with the girls of New Hope and the organization’s mission and made it her and Ashlee Kate’s mission to create the Run for Hope 5K in honor of them.

The Run for Hope is a day of fun racing and fund raising to benefit New Hope Girls. This organization is a non-profit committed to protecting Dominican Republic girls and their mothers from the cycles of exploitation.

Race day begins at 8am sharp, Saturday, February 26th at Payne Park*. Awards will immediately follow the race spanning six deep per each five-year age group.
